Auditions

Auditions are required for music majors to be admitted into the program. They are also required for any student with any degree path to receive a scholarship.

Auditions are held on the below listed days but may also be scheduled individually.

To schedule an audition time, fill out the audition form below. Email questions you may have to the faculty member for your instrument/area or to Dr. Nick Balla or Dr. Allegra Fisher.

Drumline Auditions

April - May

Drumline auditions are held at the end of April/beginning of May.

For Spring 2026, auditions will be held on A-State’s campus with the date TBD.

Audition sign-ups will be open in Spring 2026.

Color Guard Auditions

April - May

Color guard auditions are announced in early February/March.

Students should expect to prepare a 90-120 second routine to showcase your strengths in color guard performance. You are encouraged to incorporate any flag, dance or additional color guard equipment into your routine. 

The final part of the audition is learning 2 short routines taught by the instructor and student leaders. All students in color guard both new and returning members are required to audition each year.

Twirler Auditions

To be a twirler with The Sound of the Natural State Marching Band, students must audition in the spring semester. The audition includes two phases:

Phase 1: A formal application including a resume, and links to videos of recent twirling routines;

Phase 2: A video of an original routine and a performance to go along with  our fight song routine.
