Studying Theatre at A-State means when you learn something in class, you’ll have a chance to put that learning into practice the same day in our vibrant production program. Every aspect of our productions is driven by students applying what they’ve learned. Every student registers for Practicum, a course in which students undertake major creative and technical responsibilities while receiving faculty mentorship.

Bright Star is a heartwarming musical set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in the 1940s & 50s. The story follows Alice Murphy, a successful literary editor in her 40s, as she grapples with the secrets of her past and the possibility of a new love. When a young soldier named Billy returns from World War II and becomes a talented writer, Alice takes him under her wing, unaware of the connection they share.
