Biography

David Mach is a pianist, piano teacher, and collaborator based in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He currently serves as Adjunct Instructor of Collaborative Piano at Arkansas State University. 
David has received prizes in competitions both regionally and internationally. In 2022, he received 1st prize in the United States New Star International Piano Competition. David has received prizes in numerous other international competitions including the Virtual New Orleans Piano Institute International Competition, VII Future Stars International Piano Competition, The Orbetello International Piano Competition, and the Orbetello International Piano Competition. He has won various regional competitions including The University of Oklahoma Rising Star Solo Competition, Oklahoma Music Teachers Association Competition, Alabama Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition, Alabama Music Teachers Association Solo Competition, amongst others.

David’s research on diverse repertoire, the physiology of piano technique, and group piano has been presented both regionally and nationally. In 2023, David presented his research on Germaine Tailleferre’s music for the piano duo across the country at NCKP 2023: The Piano Conference, MTNA Collegiate Chapters Symposium, CMS Central Conference, and Oklahoma Music Teachers Association State Conference (OMTA). At OMTA, David also presented an introduction to Mexican Music through Manuel Ponce’s Veinte Piezas Faciles, and his research on Otto Ortmann has been accepted to both NCKP in 2023 and GP3 in 2024. In 2021, he presented at the national MTNA Conference on “Group Piano That Moves: Off-the-Bench Strategies for the Collegiate Group Piano Class.”

David avidly performs with pianist Mimi Zhang, as Echo Duo. In 2023, the group was named finalists in both the Ohio International Piano Duet and Two-Piano Competition, and the MTNA Stecher and Horowitz Two-Piano Competition. In Ohio, they received the Hwaen Chu’qi Prize for their performance of music by Incan-Peruvian composer Hwaen Chu’qi. The duo also won 1st prize in the New York Victory International Music Competition in 2023. In February 2023, Echo Duo were invited to perform alongside the Oklahoma Community Orchestra with conductor Irvin Wagner.

David received his Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Houston under Madison Endowed Professor of Piano Nancy Weems, and is currently finishing his DMA in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma (ABD) under Dr. Jeongwon Ham and Dr. Barbara Fast. He received his BM under Dr. Kevin Chance at the Moody School of Music.

While David is not teaching or preparing for a performance, he enjoys reading, or learning about music production and synthesis.
