Biography

Dr. Farhad Moeeni is Professor of Operations and Information Systems, and the Founder of Data Automation Laboratory at Arkansas State University. He holds a M.S. degree in industrial engineering and a Ph.D. in operations management with MIS minor, both from the University of Arizona. His research appeared in Decision Sciences Journal, Int. journal of Production Economics, Int. Journal of Production Research, Int. Transactions in Operational Research, Quality Progress, Decision Line and other journals.

Contributions include keynote and invited speeches on the topic of data automation, frequent guest lecturer at the University of Caen, France, principle investigator of a multi-university research project funded by Arkansas Science and Technology Authority on identification technologies, Co-chair of the Identity Solutions Symposium and Workshop, on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of RF Technologies: Research and Applications.

Dr. Moeeni has been a pioneer of integrating data automation technologies, including RFID and other data automation methods and the MIS curriculum since 1999. Moeeni has interest and experience in RFID and bar coding technologies for automating the data collection process that also encompasses computational models for RFID-based location sensing. A recent research project led to the development of algorithms for computing the perpetual location of moving entities in indoor facilities through the use of low-cost, passive RFID technology.

Current research activities include various aspects of modeling and simulating service operations such as modeling customer impatience, application of data automation technologies in the data collection phase of simulation modeling, Internet of Things (IoT) and the intelligent supply chain.   Since 2012, Moeeni has been working on a research project with one of his students to develop an automated, live, audio/video streaming system controlled by RFID technology. A U.S. utility patent has just been granted for the outcome of this research.
