College life can be exciting, but it can also come with stress and pressure. The Wilson
Counseling Center is here to support you through the natural mental health challenges
that come with being a student. Whether you're managing anxiety or just need someone
to talk to, we're here to help.
Take a brief and anonymous mental health screening! We will not be able to identify you after taking the screening, so feel free to
reach out to us if you would like to follow up or discuss the results.
Emergencies
If it’s a medical emergency or a life-threatening situation, call 911 or go to the
nearest emergency room.
Counseling services at A-State are FREE and confidential. Here’s what you need to know before your first visit.
Eligibility
Counseling services are free for all enrolled students at A-State Jonesboro and NYITCOM at A-State. Faculty and
staff are not eligible for services. However, they can contact Human Resources for
access to the Employee Assistance Program.
You don’t have to figure things out alone. We offer individual counseling, group sessions,
workshops, and more to help you manage stress, relationships, and academic challenges.
Explore all our services and see how we can best support you.
Counseling Formats
We understand that counseling only works if it fits your lifestyle. Our services are
available in person or via Zoom—all under the same HIPPA privacy. However, due to
licensure restrictions, you must be within the state of Arkansas at the time of any
video call.
Before counseling begins, you’ll need a short intake session—usually 15 to 30 minutes.
Here you'll talk through any questions or concerns we’ll explore next steps. Intakes
are also offered in person or via Zoom. Learn more about getting started and scheduling
your intake and follow-up appointments. To make sure we can support as many students as possible, most services do require
an appointment. However, if you're experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency,
you can be seen without one.
Support Beyond Our Office
Explore tools, tips, and support networks designed to help students, faculty, and
staff take care of themselves—and each other.
Find support both on and off campus. This resource hub includes hotlines for crisis
support, mental health apps, and helpful websites. Along with a long list of local
resources for food, housing, transportation, academics, and more. No matter what you're
facing, there's something here to help.
Faculty and staff are often the first to notice when a student is struggling. Learn
more about the signs to look for, how to approach a student, and how to connect them
with support. You can also consult directly with our counselors for guidance. You're
never alone in helping a student get the care they need.
TAO is your online self-help resource for mental wellness, offering tools to manage
stress, anxiety, and more. Access guided programs anytime, from anywhere. Signing
up is quick and free for A-State students. Explore TAO to learn new skills at your
own pace.
It’s normal to have questions before starting counseling, and we’re glad you’re asking
them. You’re not alone, and we’re here to help every step of the way. If you’re ever
unsure, just reach out.
Not at all. Many students come to counseling just to talk things through or work on
personal growth. College can be stressful, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes.
Talking to a counselor can help you gain perspective and feel more in control.
Yes. What you share with us stays private. Your counseling records are separate from
your academic or medical records, and we won’t share anything without your written
permission—unless there’s a serious safety concern or a legal requirement. We’ll always
explain your rights if that ever happens.
Please don’t keep those feelings to yourself. If you're feeling hopeless or like you
can’t cope, come to the Counseling Center or call us right away at 870-972-2318.
After hours, call University Police at 870-972-2093 or 911 if it’s an emergency.
You're not alone, and there’s help available anytime you need it.
If you’re concerned about someone, you can talk to a counselor about what to do. We’ll
help you figure out how to support your friend or get them the help they need. If
it seems urgent or like they’re in danger, contact us or call University Police at
870-972-2093 right away.
