Online Writing Center
Welcome to the Arkansas State University Online Writing Center!
We offer writing services to A-State Online students so they may develop habits that lead to successful written communication. Our staff consists of tutors from various writing backgrounds that understand the struggles and joys of writing. We provide tutoring for all writing stages, from understanding the prompt and outlining to grammar and finalizing the paper. Successful writing comes from developing a network of interrelated skills and strategies, and we look forward to working with you to aid in this process.

Services we provide:
- Writing projects across all disciplines
- Any stage of the writing process (brainstorming, theses, citation, etc.)
- Professional writing such as cover letters, personal statements, etc.
- Graduate theses and dissertations
- All skill levels of writing
- Overcoming writer’s block
- Understanding basic grammar topics
Services we do NOT provide:
- Proofreading your paper
- Writing or re-writing your paper
- Predicting your grade
- "Finding" all the grammar errors
- Reading your friend's paper
Hourly policy:
Please be advised that OWC appointments are scheduled on the hour.
Cancelation policy:
When you make an appointment for the Online Writing Center, you MUST keep that appointment. If you cannot attend the synchronous session, you are required to cancel your appointment 3 hours in advance. To cancel an appointment, select the appointment on Penji and click "cancel appointment" in the appointment screen's top right side. If you miss three synchronous appointments without providing advanced notice, you will not be permitted to use the Online Writing Center for the remainder of the semester. Scheduling an asynchronous appointment without providing your work is also considered a missed appointment.

Hours may vary during holidays, summer sessions, and final exam periods. We are only open when classes are in session.

Penji Installation
- Download the Penji app or utilize its website at https://www.penjiapp.com. The Penji app is available for download for both iOS and Android. The icon is blue with a penguin.
- Select Sign-up.
- Enter your A-State student e-mail address.
- Single sign-on with A-state credentials. (This may have to be done more than once.)
- Sign-up options: Choose Learn.
- Complete your profile: name, picture, major, etc.
- Select the AOS Success Center.
Directions for Scheduling an Appointment with the Penji App
- Select the AOS Success Center.
- Select ‘Schedule Appointment’
- Select your particular course. (Search by CRN or course name)
- Select a day and time for your session.
- Select your tutor.
- Select your location ('Zoom' for Synchronous or 'Asynchronous')
- Create an “Agenda” (list what section(s) or topics you wish to work on) and select any materials (if any) that you will be using for the session.
- Review all the information and Confirm.
- The upcoming session will appear in your activity feed.
- Once there, the session details will contain all information for the appointment including the Zoom meeting link for Synchronous appointments.
- If Synchronous, join the meeting at the scheduled time via Zoom. If Asynchronous, expect feedback in the Google Folder from your tutor within the hour.
