Sympathy Extended to Family and Former Colleagues of Dr. Jess R. White

JONESBORO – The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former colleagues of Dr. Jess R. White of Jonesboro, emeritus professor of physical education, who died Friday.

White joined Arkansas State University’s faculty in 1968 as professor of physical education. He served as chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in the College of Education and Behavioral Science until his retirement in 1989.

During the university's Centennial Celebration in 2009-10, White was honored by the Faculty Association as one of the “First 100 Distinguished Faculty” of the institution in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the institution's success.

Survivors include three daughters and their families.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Details are in the obituary.

The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be lighted scarlet Tuesday evening in memorial tribute to White’s service to higher education and A-State.
