Summer Children's Theatre to Present 'Pinocchio 3.5'

07/19/2017

JONESBORO – The second production of the 24th season of Summer Children’s Theatre at Arkansas State University will be "Pinocchio 3.5," by Eric Coble.

According to the publisher's synopsis, Gill Bates has the greatest software company on earth, but there’s still something missing in his life: children.  He builds a robot companion named Pinocchio.  But this mischievous mass of microchips is led into a consumer frenzy.  What follows is a wacky retelling of the 19th-century classic about what it takes to become a real human being.

Performance dates are Wednesday, July 26, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday, July 27, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Friday, July 28, at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  This production of Pinocchio 3.5 is sponsored by The Golden Grotto and the A-State College of Business Online MBA program.

Pinocchio 3.5 will be produced by A-State Theatre students through special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.

The performers are Hayley Scott of North Little Rock as Blue Faerie/Miss Treats, David Norris of Desha as Gill Bates/Mr. Geoffrey, Irene Taylor of Birdtown as Ms. Inkjet/Sachs the Fifth, Jackson Wu of Taipei, Taiwan, as Pinocchio, and Hannah Martin of Blytheville as Gameboy/Archie.

The play will be directed by Bohn, department chair and associate professor of theatre, who also will serve as sound designer.  Scenic and lighting design and technical direction will be supervised by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre. Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer.

Costume construction will be by Davis Campbell of Batesville. Lauren Wilcox of Jonesboro will serve as properties master and Peyton Miller of Paragould will serve as stage manager.

All performances will be held at the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive.  Parking is available on the north side of the Fowler Center.

All seating is reserved.  Tickets should be purchased in advance at the Central Box Office in the Convocation Center for $5, by calling 972-ASU1, or online at tickets.AState.edu.   Tickets may also be purchased at the door (if available) on the day of the performance for $7 each.  Reservations are highly recommended.
