Department of Military Science Commissions Three Second Lieutenants

JONESBORO -- The Department of Military Science at Arkansas State University Friday commissioned three ROTC cadets into the U. S. Army and Army National Guard in a ceremony attended by family, friends and university staff. The three officers also received their diplomas Saturday during Arkansas State’s Fall Commencement.

Col. Greg Bacon, chief of staff for the Arkansas National Guard, was guest speaker for the officer commissioning ceremony.

Lt. Col. Cecil L. Clark, professor of military science and department chair, administered the oath to Daniel J. Baum of White Hall and Steven R. Broyles of West Plains, Mo.  Col. Bacon administered the oath to Chance C. Hall of Mercer, Pa.

Cadet Baum was commissioned as second lieutenant in the Missouri National Guard, Ordnance Corps. Baum earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, and minored in military science, sociology and criminology. He was pinned with his gold bars by his wife, Nicole Baum, and his mother, Susan Heinze.

Cadet Broyles was commissioned as second lieutenant into active Army, Field Artillery Branch. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, and minored in military science. He was pinned by his fiancé, Jennifer Hartman, and his sister, Tiffany Nicole Tutterow.

Cadet Hall was commissioned as second lieutenant into the Arkansas National Guard, Infantry Branch. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mid-level education, and minored in military science. He was pinned by his grandparents, Edward and Eva Hall.
