JONESBORO – For parents making summer plans for their children, Arkansas State University’s Summer Camp Academy provides exciting educational activities.

Designed for children and youth ages 3 to 18, the academy provides an array of activities including art, literature, drama and creative play, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) sessions in the more than 60 camps being offered.

If you child is a Harry Potter fanatic, perhaps “Harry Potter at Hogwarts” is the camp for you.

“Jurassic Park Comes to Jonesboro,” “Shark Week,” “Hour of Code,” “Junk Box Engineering,” “Art for Little Hands,” “To the Moon and Back,” “The Power of Me Food and Fitness Camp,” “CSI Camp,”  “Animal Safari,” “Be a Talk Show Star! Videography Camp,” and “Super Hero Training” are just some of the other camps being offered.

“Our camp leaders and teachers are dedicated to helping children build self confidence, advance academic skills, and experience new and exciting ways of learning,” said Dr. Beverly Boals Gilbert, A-State professor of teacher education and camp director. “Many of the camp teachers have master’s degrees and hours beyond a master’s, National Board Certification and licensure in multiple areas of education.

“We want parents to know while their children are having a good time, they are being taught by competent instructors who are dedicated to learning and to making it fun.”

Individual camp size is limited, so Gilbert advises parents to register soon. A complete listing of the weeklong camps that will be conducted, along with applications for each of the camps, is accessible at the Summer Camp Academy website: AState.edu/Youth. Costs for individual camps vary; consult the website for price information.
