Department of Biomedical & Anatomical Sciences, NYITCOM-Arkansas

Research Interests

Dr. Karen Poole uses phylogenetic systematic methods to infer evolutionary relationships, particularly among ornithischian dinosaurs. In particular, she is interested in the evolution of the hands and wrists of iguanodontian dinosaurs as they shifted from a bipedal to a quadrupedal posture. She uses CT scanning to reconstruct and better visualize fossils. She earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from George Washington University, followed by a postdoctoral teaching position at Stony Brook University.

Dr. Poole teaches human anatomy at NYITCOM-Arkansas, and is active with outreach programs to K-12 classrooms, primarily through Skype A Scientist.
