Biography

Originally from Brazil, Nairam Simoes is an award-winning trumpet artist and Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Arkansas State University. He enjoys a multifaceted international career as a performer, music educator, and clinician. His “virtuosity and musicality are already known” (ITG) to the members of the trumpet community as he has performed with many top-tier groups including Arkansas Symphony, Memphis Symphony, Knoxville Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic, Lexington Philharmonic and Fountain City Brass Band. His album recording, Braziliana, released on the Fundamental Sounds label, have garnered international recognition as a silver medalist in the Global Music Awards. In addition to masterclasses and recitals in North America, Europe and South America, he has performed and/or given presentations at many international, national, and state-level music conferences. He is the editor of the Orchestral Spotlight Column in the International Trumpet Guild Journal, in which he has published numerous interviews with leading orchestral trumpet players. At Arkansas State, he has a vibrant trumpet program, his students have been accepted into the nation’s top graduate programs and gone on to successful careers as performers and music educators, teaching at all levels of primary, secondary, and university music programs. His trumpet ensembles have been named as “one of top student chamber ensembles in the world” (ITG) to compete at the International Trumpet Guild Chamber Music Competition and the National Trumpet Competitions. Dr. Simoes holds a D.M.A from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a M.M. degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and a B.M. from the University of Memphis. He is honored to be an S.E. Shires Performing Artist, Torpedo Bags Artist, an endorser for Robison Remedies and a recording artist for the label Fundamental Sounds.
