The Sound of the Natural State celebrated the 90
th Anniversary of A-State Bands all season culminating in several performances and an A-State victory at the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. This bowl game marked the ninth consecutive appearance in nine years for the Sound of the Natural State. Though the gameday weather was not ideal, the ceaseless rain never dampened our A-State spirit or performance! Our pregame and halftime shows were well-received, and our students represented A-State Bands and our university at the highest level throughout the victory over Florida International.

Our halftime shows this year were shared with many friends of A-State Bands. Band Day included 800 junior high and high school musicians and the Paragould Pride Marching Band under the direction of four A-State Bands Alumni Richie Williams, Carlos Serna, Cody Ballard, and Josh Mobley. These students were integral to our Heroes Day performance and their help in revealing a MASSIVE American Flag to honor our veterans. Our Homecoming halftime performance was especially popular as we featured over twenty of our alumni majorettes from 1991-2016 as part of the closer to our halftime show. These passionate A-State Band alums, led by Sabara Bowers ’96, brought the house down with their performance to Elton John’s, “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.” Be on the lookout for some exciting news to share in the future for alumni opportunities to engage with the Sound! We could not have made it to 90 years of performances at A-State without the dedication of our alumni members!

We truly appreciate all the friends and followers of our social media pages on Facebook and Twitter. We look forward to continue sharing with our A-State Bands community the Facebook livestreams of our pregame and halftime shows that our trombone professor, Dr. Bruce Faske, graciously filmed for us this past season.

We have already begun the preparation for the 91st edition of the Sound of the Natural State and we hope you consider joining us in Centennial Bank Stadium for the upcoming season. Whether you tune in from home to our Facebook livestreams, have season tickets, or will be returning specifically for homecoming, know that we are thankful for the legacy of our loyal alumni members. Membership in A-State Bands creates memories that last a lifetime, and we are excited to continue creating these marquee moments for our current, future, and alumni members!

Wolves Up!
