Coordinated Program in Dietetics

Dietitians study a variety of subjects, ranging from food and nutrition, foodservice systems management, psychology, sociology and communication, to science courses such as anatomy & physiology, chemistry and biology.

Hands-on learning

Students complete a minimum of 1,080 supervised practice hours, providing experiences in food service, community and clinical settings. Students complete half their hours in the clinical setting, and there is an emphasis on medical nutrition therapy.

This program will produce graduates who are eligible to take the registration examination for dietitians and be eligible for employment as entry-level dietitians.

Prospective student information can also be found in the student handbook.

Announcements

"Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). In most states, graduates also must obtain licensure or certification to practice. Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND-accredited coordinated program at Arkansas State University are eligible to take the CDR credentialing exam to become an RDN. Anyone who graduates after December 31, 2023 will also need to complete a graduate degree in order to be eligible to take the CDR credentialing exam to become an RDN.
