Core Disaster Life Support
Description
The Core Disaster Life Support (CDLS) Course v.3.0 is a competency based awareness-level course that introduces clinical and public health concepts and principles for the management of disasters and public health emergencies. CDLS lays the foundation for individuals from diverse professions, disciplines, and backgrounds to come together as a team to enhance personal and community health, safety and resilience. It provides a framework to enable public health, healthcare EMS, and other response personnel to work as partners in local preparedness and response efforts.

Basic Disaster Life Support
Description
Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS) includes a review of all hazards approaching natural and accidental human made events; traumatic and explosive events; nuclear and radiological events; biological events; and chemical events. Also included is information on such critical areas as the healthcare professional's role in the public health and incident management systems, community mental health, and special needs of underserved and vulnerable populations.

Topics: Recognition and management of a disaster scene and its victims is reinforced through a unique approach called the D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R paradigm. The paradigm organizes the students' preparation and response to disaster management. It emphasizes an all-hazards approach to mass casualty incident management and facilitates ongoing qualitative and quantitative assessment of an incident.

Advanced Disaster Life Support
Description:
ADLS is an advanced intensive 2-day course that allows students to demonstrate competencies in casualty decontamination, essential skills, and mass casualty incident information systems/technology applications using simulated all-hazards scenarios and mass casualty incident. ADLS is focused on the development of "hands on" skills to allow participants to apply the knowledge in interactive scenarios and drills utilizing high-fidelity manikins and volunteer patients.
Note: BDLS is a prerequisite of this course.
Core Training Areas & Course Duration:
Day 1: (4) hours of didactic lectures and (4) hours of small group table-top exercises.
Day 2: (7) hours of hands-on training distributed among (4) ADLS stations.
