Welcome to Arkansas State University!

We understand that it is very important to keep up to date with new teaching and learning pedagogies and technology. To assist faculty in this difficult task, we offer many  different Professional Development opportunities. Below you can find more information about these opportunities and links to more resources that will help you to develop your teaching skills.

  • Live Sessions

Throughout the year we offer many live in person and virtual sessions. These sessions are designed to help answer your questions about different teaching and learning pedagogies and technology that are not answered by the materials in our Support Guides.

If you are interested in seeing what opportunities we have available right now, or would like to register for one of our current sessions, check our calendar.

  • Support Guides

We know that faculty have busy schedules and don't always have time to attend our scheduled sessions. To address the issue of faculty who want to improve their skills in their own time we have developed materials that faculty can review when it is most convenient for their schedules.

To see our list of materials, visit our Support Guides page.

  • Summer Institute

The A-State Faculty Center Summer Institute sessions are designed to inspire faculty to engage today’s learners in a 21st century mobile learning environment.  The Faculty Center hosts sessions during the summer to provide faculty with a variety of professional development opportunities to inspire and cultivate innovative teaching. These summer sessions are the perfect time to update your knowledge of new techniques and technologies to improve your professional teaching method. Another benefit of participating in the summer institute is the opportunity to develop collaborative relationships with faculty from across campus.  When faculty work together in a summer institute, they inspire each other by sharing ideas and encouraging feedback.

Participants that wish to receive a stipend for participating in sessions are expected to show how they will use the knowledge, skills, and teaching strategies they develop during the sessions to enhance their teaching during the next academic year. Stipends may be awarded to those that complete the application and participate in one of the scheduled showcase events.

Details about the next Summer Institute will be found on our Featured News page and on our calendar

  • Teaching & Learning Symposium

The A-State Faculty Center's Fall Teaching & Learning  Symposium allows faculty to inspire each other by sharing new techniques and technologies they are using in their classes. It is also a time that faculty can meet with representatives of A-State's Technology partners to ask questions, and learn about upcoming feature improvements. Faculty that would like to present at the symposium or host a workshop should look for the call for presentations that will go out before the event. A selection committee will review the proposals and notify those that are accepted ahead of the event.

Details about the next Symposium will be found on our Featured News page and on our calendar

  • Association of College and University Educators (ACUE)

Academic Affairs and the A-State Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) are partnering with Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) to offer interactive cohort-based courses on best practices for effective university-level teaching. Participants will have a chance to learn new ideas, practice concepts in their classroom (F2F or online) and discuss outcomes with A-State colleagues in their cohort.  Upon completion of the Effective Teaching Practices course, you will earn a nationally recognized Certificate in Effective College Instruction, the only college teaching credential endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE). You will also have the opportunity to pay it forward by interacting with future A-State cohorts.

To learn more about our partnership and see what courses you could register for, see our ACUE support page.
