REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

  1. Click on the above links to go to the respective summer camp registrations.
  2. Complete the online registration where you choose and select camps.
  3. Payment is made at the time of registration with a debit or credit card or check and routing number.
  4. For Cash Payment Option---If you choose to pay with cash, you may make that payment at the A-State Cashier’s Window located in the Reng Student Union, 2nd Once you have paid, you can email the Camp Academy account, ca@astate.edu to register. We will email you a link for your registration. You will also go to the www.astate.edu/youth page and complete the Required Legal Documents.
  5. Refunds – You may request a refund for a period of up to one week prior to the camp. To do so email ca@astate.edu and give the child or  children’s names and the camps for which you would like a refund and your method of payment – credit or debit card, check or cash.

The Camp Location for drop-off and pick-up is the Education and Communications Building Parking Lot (located just behind the library) unless noted otherwise on the website www.astate.edu/youth or in the marketplace mall registration page. A campus map and parking guide is provided below. In addition, you will receive an email reminder with parking and driving directions the week prior to the camp. The email will go to the individual email account used in the camp registration.  If a friend or relative completes your registration, remember to ask them to forward you any email changes regarding camp location, driving and parking directions. Check your email the week before camp for any changes or updates you may need to know!  

Camp leaders and assistants will be waiting to meet you and check you in. Also, parents, please park and walk your child into the camp room, and visit our camp anytime. For students who are already driving, contact me at bboals@astate.edu and I will make arrangements to assist you with a parking permit for the duration of your camp.

A-STATE  SUMMER CAMP ACADEMY 2021

Camp: A-State Summer Reading Academy
Time: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Age/Grade: K - 6th grades (Rising Grade Levels – Fall 2021)
Cost: No cost
Location:  Drop-Off in Education Parking Lot

The A-State Summer Reading Academy is designed for:
  1. Children who need tutoring for a dyslexia diagnosis
  2. Children who are struggling readers
  3. Children who can benefit from reading enrichment using quality children’s literature and book activities. The intent is to increase the student reading performance scores and ability, and increase student interest and pleasure in reading.

This is a 4 week camp. Children may attend all or part of this camp. There is no cost for this camp. Registration is required for each week.

Camp: Everything Slime
Time: 8:30 am – 12:00 pm

Who doesn’t LOVE SLIME? This week you will make so many different types of slime you won’t believe it!  We have glitter slime, rainbow slime, creamy slime, smooth slime, gritty slime, sticky slime, foamy slime, and you will find out what happens when we mix slime with clay, play dough, baking soda and vinegar!  Can you predict the outcome? We will do science experiments with slime, pretend with slime, mix colors with slime, count and stretch slime! Have fun exploring all types of slime during Slime Week!

Camp Made Possible by the College of Education and Behavioral Science

This camp uses “The LAUNCH Cycle” which is an engineering design cycle to solve problems. The Launch Cycle is a type of engineering design cycle that allows students to learn about NGSS engineering standards. The Launch Cycle includes steps that the students use as a model to solve their engineering/real world problems. Each letter of LAUNCH stands for something: Look, listen and learn, Ask Questions, Understand the Problem, Navigate Ideas; Create a Prototype, and Highlight and Fix (improve).  The final step is to LAUNCH to an audience- share or present to others. This camp allows students to feel relevance in their learning, see possibilities of the impact that they will make, and take ownership of their own learning in all areas of STEAM.  Students will LOVE this NASA Engineering and Exploration experience!  Students will be accepted in the order they register.

Students will have the opportunity to work with Certified teachers on skills that they may be struggling with to help them prepare for the upcoming school year. These skills can be in literacy, math, or writing.

Have you ever wanted to be a Veterinarian? Do you just love animals? This camp will give you the opportunity to learn about different animals as well as using a hands-on approach with animals that may not be your everyday pet!

Students will delve into the world of crime detection and forensic science. Kids will be developing their skills of observation and creative thinking, investigating the scene of a crime, analyzing evidence and documents. They will be Detectives before you know it!

Because you asked!  Parents have requested more Legos and we are responding. The children are divided into groups by age.  Children are naturally gifted at being creative. This construction camp will give them the opportunity to build objects, structures, vehicles and more by using LEGO pieces all while exploring the fundamentals of physics and engineering.

Camp: Digital Photography Bootcamp Advanced
Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (Lunch included)

In June, the Beginning Photography Bootcamp was offered and this camp will be an extension of that camp. This camp will build upon that content and continue with new tools, strategies, and procedures. You can continue to sharpen your camera skills in this Digital Photography Adobe Photoshop summer boot camp and explore the multi-step process of using a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera. If you are new to photography and did not complete the first camp in June we can still work with you as you discover more about digital photography. The camp is individualized to a degree because of each person’s interests and abilities. So, whether you’re new to photography or looking to further develop your artistic view, the School of Media and Journalism is the perfect environment to learn digital photography in all its aspects. Students will be able to work at their own pace, while the fundamentals of digital photography and its post-production workflow and techniques. This 5-Day course will provide the time necessary to create new work and or refresh already acquired skills.  In this workshop you will: 

  • Gain an understanding of the principles of photography, while learning the fundamental skills necessary to compose engaging images.
  • Learn how to optimize exposure through aperture and shutter adjustments
  • Learn the basics of studio lighting
  • Gain an understanding of workflow and digital asset management 

Camp: Splish, Splash, Science

Fun, hands- on experiments, involving water and more water!  We will discover and create scientific reactions…. be prepared for the unexpected! Splish and splash with us as we explore science in a fun, safe, and "messy" way. But, be sure and let Mother know that we have protective gear to keep you safe and dry when we do indoor splish splash science. These are all fun and age appropriate experiments and explosions! You won't just do the experiments, you will learn why the chemical and physical reactions take place. Fun!!!

Students will be introduced to computer science first through a story about a little girl, Ruby, who goes on an adventure encountering several computer science concepts along the way. She then uses these skills to play a game navigating a robotic dog. All activities in the unit are unplugged, involving active movements or arts & crafts.

Camp: Let the Art Flow
Time: 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Age: 3rd – 6th Grades (Rising Grade Levels or grade entering in Fall 2021)
Cost: $75.00                
Location: Fine Arts Building (Drop-Off in Education Parking Lot)

Learn multiple ways to create fluid artwork and at the end of camp, take home a piece of customized clothing to show off your new skills.

Camp: Camp STEAM for Teens in 9th – 12th Grades
Time:  Overnight, 5 days, 4 nights
Cost:  $400.00 includes all meals and lodging in an A-State Residence Hall
Age/Grade:  9th – 12th Grades (Rising Grade Levels or Grade Entering in Fall, 2021)

The A-State Summer STEAM based camp is designed specifically designed to engage the campers in 9-12 Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering content through the use of tactile projects and real-world scenarios to reinforce critical thinking and deepen understanding in a fun and creative environment.  We will utilize the implementation of 21st Century Skills within this camp so campers can see how the knowledge they obtain from an education and degree can be used in the real world. Department tours and presentations are a part of this camp to familiarize students with the A-State campus and degree programs.  Fun and engaging activities, of course, are planned for evenings.   This is a one-week, overnight camp, 5 days and 4 nights.  The dates are July 12 – 16.  The cost of the camp for all meals, 5 days, 4 nights, individual rooms in a campus residence hall, is $400.00.  Contact bboals@astate.edu for location details and additional information. Check-in Monday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m. Pick-up Friday, July 16 at 1:00 p.m.

Camp: Time Traveling Through the A-State Heritage Sites
Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Age/Grade: 5th – 7th grades (Rising Grade Levels – Fall 2021) 
Cost: $150
Location: Drop-Off in Education Parking Lot

The Arkansas State University Heritage Sites will offer a week-long time traveling camp for students who are in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade during the current academic school year (2020-2021). This camp will be held Monday, July 26 through Friday, July 30 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. The camp will host 30 participants at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. During the week students will travel by van to:

  • The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott
  • Karl and Matilda Pfeiffer Museum in Piggott
  • Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess
  • The Southern Tenant Farmers Museum in Tyronza
  • Hampson Museum in Wilson

Other educational excursions on campus include:

  • Historic V.C. Kays House
  • A-State Museum
  • Bradbury Art Museum
