The IFC Recruitment process is intended to be positive, fun, and enriching for everyone who participates. Registering for and participating in the recruitment process does not require men to join a fraternity, but does, however, enable them to explore and learn more about opportunities for membership within our Fraternity & Sorority Life community.

PRIMARY RECRUITMENT

Potential New Members (PNMs) will register for Fall Recruitment online. This allows us to capture contact information for announcements and reminders, as well as to share with our IFC fraternities. There is a $30 Arkansas State IFC Recruitment registration fee in addition to a $5 administrative fee charged by the third party IFC Recruitment Registration system, ICS. The $30 Arkansas State IFC Recruitment registration fee assists in covering the cost of the Fraternity Recruitment related supplies, marketing events, and a t-shirt for every registered PNM.

Registering for and participating in the Fall recruitment process does not require men to join a fraternity. It does, however, enable them to explore and learn more about opportunities for membership within our Fraternity & Sorority Life community. This process is intended to be a positive, fun, and enriching experience. Please note that bids are not guaranteed, so students are strongly encouraged to participate as fully as possible in advertised recruitment opportunities and to keep an open mind.

Open Bid Opportunities

Following Fall Recruitment Week, Arkansas State IFC Fraternities have the opportunity to extend open bids throughout the rest of the Fall and Spring semesters. We highly encourage young men to participate in the Recruitment process to ensure maximum exposure to all available fraternity options; however, open bidding is another method for fraternity membership. Please note that not all chapters choose to offer open bids following the Fall semester, so open bidding options are likely to be limited.

New Member Education

Upon accepting a bid, New Member Education will occur within each fraternity. Each fraternity's National Headquarters will provide clear guidance and instruction on how to provide a healthy, fun, informative, and safe new member education process. We believe a strongly executed New Member Education process should:

  • Provide new members with strong and lifelong friendships
  • Effectively and healthily teach new members about the fraternal organization and local chapter
  • Challenge young men to be the best version of themselves
  • Hold its members accountable to upholding the values and integrity of the fraternal organization
  • Encourage academic success
  • Instill a sense of service and philanthropic commitment
  • Build a lifelong commitment to the organization

Arkansas State has high expectations for all Arkansas State student organizations and clearly communicates and trains student leaders on hazing. We strongly encourage all students interested in joining an organization and/or parents/friends/family of an interested student to read through the Arkansas State Hazing Informational website.

ELIGIBILITY FOR FALL FORMAL RECRUITMENT

In order to participate in Fall Interfraternity Council Recruitment, you must be a regularly enrolled, full-time Arkansas State University-Jonesboro (on-campus or online) student in good academic and conduct standing with Arkansas State. A minimum cumulative high school or college grade point average (GPA) of a 2.5 is required in order to participate in A-State IFC Recruitment; however, some of our IFC fraternities have national/local requirements that are higher than a 2.5 cumulative. As a result, we recommend striving for at least a 2.7 or 3.0 cumulative GPA.
