10/06/2022

JONESBORO – The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former colleagues of Dr. Hal McCloud of Jonesboro, who died last week.

McCloud retired from Arkansas State University in 1998, at which time he was named emeritus professor of physics. He served at A-State for 32 years, having joined the faculty in 1966. He also taught courses in electrical engineering.

Previously he was an assistant professor at the institution known today as the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. He earned his master’s degree in physics and his Ph.D. in engineering physics at the same institution, and earlier completed his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at the University of Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a son and a daughter; and several other family members.

The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be lighted scarlet Friday, Oct. 7, in memorial tribute to McCloud’s service and contributions to higher education and Arkansas State University. His complete obituary is online.
