08/26/2014

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University students will conduct their 18th annual “Order of the Pack” pep rally Thursday, Aug. 28, and welcome a new class of students into the Red Wolves family.

Sponsors of Order of the Pack, the Student Activities Board and the Student Government Association, work together to emphasize the traditions of Red Wolf athletics and Pack Pride.

Order of the Pack starts at 7:30 p.m. in Centennial Bank Stadium.  The public is encouraged to attend; seating is first-come, first-served.

The Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Color Guard will post the colors, the University Choir will sing the national anthem, and the Sound of the Natural State marching band will perform the alma mater to start the program.

Logan Mustain, president of the Student Government Association, will welcome the crowd, and Brandon Haley, president of the Student Activities Board, will introduce the homecoming theme announcement video.  Homecoming will be the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 4.

Program participants will include Dr. Tim Hudson, chancellor, and his wife, Dr. Dee Dee Hudson; Dr. Rick Stripling, vice chancellor for Student Affairs; the Red Wolf Dancers; and the A-State cheerleaders.

Mickey Ryan, associate director of athletics, will emcee the final portion of the program, which includes Blake Anderson, head football coach, along with the coaches and all Red Wolves athletic teams.

Student groups will compete for the Alumni Spirit Stick, to be presented by Beth Smith, executive director of the Alumni Association.

Students with a valid A-State ID will receive a ticket as they enter the stadium, making them eligible for a complimentary spirit item.

Prior to the rally, at 5:30 p.m., the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual “Great A-State Tailgate,” a major part of Paint the Town Red Week, in downtown Jonesboro.  All Red Wolf fans are encouraged to attend the tailgate as well as Order of the Pack.

The first home game of the football season will be Saturday evening when the Red Wolves host Montana State, with kickoff at 6 p.m.
