Students Named Finalists for Intercollegiate Broadcast System Media Awards

JONESBORO – Nearly 50 creative media production students at Arkansas State University have been named as finalists in seven categories for the Intercollegiate Broadcast System (IBS) Media Awards.Schools from across the U.S. participate in the annual competition that recognizes the best in student media. Winners will be announced at the IBS Convention in New York City in March.

Finalists in the Best Show Promotional Poster category for “Legacy: Black Excellence in Jonesboro” are Kayla Lindsey of Ozark, Mo., Connor Rutelonis of Little Rock, Colby Wood of Brookland, Reace Barnett of Jonesboro, James Lowery of Marion, and Jacob Osborn of Searcy.Best Podcast finalist for “Crappy Bag of Popcorn Podcast” is Rachel Rudd of Beebe.Finalists in the Best Newscast category for “State of NEA,” are Cidney Davis and Krystal Smith of North Little Rock, Garrett Finnicum, Kenya Jones, Hayden Reynolds, Jack Roach, and Zoe Zipfel of Jonesboro, Tristan Harlen, Cooper Melder and Paige Ruttiger of Cabot,Carson Harris of Brookland, Lily Hess of Wynne, Tina Huang of China, Markell McCoy of Clarksdale, Miss., Brady Michael of Malvern, Quentin Takacs of Bristow, Okla., Colby Thompson of Conway, and Eddie Wilson of Marion.

Best Sports Play-by-Play Broadcast finalists for “ASU-TV 2023 Arkansas High School Football Westside vs. Harrisburg,” are Ty Phillips and Kenzi Culter of Harrison, Cooper Melder and Tristan Harlen of Cabot, Easton John of Kansas City, Mo., Luke Maddox of Little Rock and Jacob Wicinski of Jonesboro.

Finalists for Best Variety Program for “Name of the Game,” are Colby Thompson of Conway, Jacob Osborn of Searcy, Dominic Mineau and Justin Harris of Jonesboro, Christian Wilcox of Jackson, Tenn., Carson Harris of Brookland, James Lowery of Marion, George Noguchi of Japan, Austin Sweat of Batesville, Laura Carter of Hot Springs, Cassy Renfrow of Marianna, Cameron Cobb of Warren and Michael Buck of Bryant.A finalist in the Best Radio Promotion is Kayla Lindsey of Ozark, Mo., for “Creative Media Production Promo.”Best Talk Program finalists for “You, Me and The Community” are Dalton Adams of Harrison, Emillano Ceballos Salinas of Mexico, Jefferson Foreman of Del Ray, Okla., Cullen Huisman of Germantown Tenn., Brady Mascoe of Conway, Paige Ruttiger of Cabot, Jade Upshaw of Kellyville, Okla., Christian Wilcox of Jackson, Tenn., Garrett Finnicum, Hayden Reynolds and Jack Roach of Jonesboro; Lauren Pendleton, Lake Maddox and Jordan Moore of Little Rock.

IBS is an 82-year-old organization that supports students, faculty and staff of college and high school media outlets. The not-for-profit educational association serves as an experienced resource for information, action and help for collegiate radio and television stations.
