10/28/2025

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University will host Dr. Natalie Underberg-Goode, professor of games and interactive media at the University of Central Florida, for a presentation titled "Digital Heritage Design."

The presentation will be 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in Room 2032 of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Underberg-Goode will discuss how digital technology can be used to explore and preserve topics in history, folklore and cultural heritage. Her presentation will highlight how digital storytelling and interactive media can bring traditional narratives and cultural practices to life through modern platforms.

“Dr. Underberg-Goode’s work shows how digital tools can help preserve and share the stories that define communities,” said Dr. Gregory Hansen, professor of folklore and English at A-State. “Her innovative approach connects technology with tradition, offering new ways to keep cultural heritage alive for future generations.”

A leading scholar in the field of digital media and folklore, Underberg-Goode also serves as an affiliate faculty member in the Latin American, Caribbean and Latino studies program at UCF. She has authored numerous books and articles on digital storytelling and participatory media design and has directed or co-directed several digital heritage projects worldwide.

One of her featured projects, Portal to Peru, documents and interprets the weaving traditions of artisans in Cuzco, Peru, in collaboration with the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cuzco. She is also known for her work on games and interactive sites exploring Florida’s folk culture, including a game based on the tale of the Turkey Maiden.
