Retiring Faculty to be Recognized at Honors Convocation

JONESBORO – Nine faculty members who are retiring this academic year will be recognized Tuesday, April 9, for their longtime service and contributions to Arkansas State University during the 41st annual Faculty Honors Convocation.

Each retiree's immediate supervisor will present a tribute to the individual, noting career highlights, professional service and contributions to the university.  Each person retiring with 10 or more years of service also will be designated for emeritus status.

Linda Clark has the longest term of service, with 48 years, followed by Dr. Ruth A. Hawkins, with 41 years.

Those to be recognized, academic title, and length of service at Arkansas State are:

  • Dr. Osabuohien Amienyi, chair, Department of Media, and professor of creative media production, 30 years

  • Dr. Steve Bounds, professor of educational leadership, 11 years

  • Linda Clark, assistant professor of communication studies, 48 years

  • Dr. Lynita Cooksey, provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, and associate professor of biology, 26 years

  • Dr. Ruth A. Hawkins, executive director of A-State Heritage Sites and distinguished professor, 41 years

  • Dr. Gregory Meeks, associate professor of teacher education, 15 years

  • William Payne, associate professor of clinical laboratory sciences, 31 years

  • Dr. Phyllis E. Pobst, associate professor of history, 28 years

  • Lisa Schafer, assistant professor of nursing, 14 years

The Faculty Honors Convocation, a highlight of the annual Convocation of Scholars observance, is hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs and Research to celebrate the achievements of Arkansas State’s faculty.

The event, which begins at 2 p.m. in Centennial Hall of the Carl R. Reng Student Union, is open to the public.
