Retiring and Veteran Faculty Members Recognized at Faculty Honors Convocation

JONESBORO – Six faculty members who have retired in the past year or will retire at the end of the current academic year were recognized for their longtime service and contributions to Arkansas State University during the annual Faculty Honors Convocation.

Dr. Deborah Chappel Daniel, associate professor of English, has the longest term of service, with 31 years.

Other retirees recognized, along with their title and length of service at Arkansas State, were:

  • Dr. David Holman, associate professor of education, 30 years
  • Dr. Tillman Kennon, professor of science education, 22 years
  • Dr. Kenneth Carroll, associate professor of saxophone, 20 years
  • Dr. Brett Savary, research professor of biopolymer chemistry, 17 years
  • Dr. Larry Morton, associate professor of social work, 11 years.

Several individuals who have attained service milestones of 45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15 and 10 years were recognized:

45 Years: Dr. Terry Dancer, professor, accounting; Dr. Beverly Boals Gilbert, professor, teacher education.

40 Years: Dr. Pamela Hronek, associate professor, history.

35 Years: Dr. Mary Jackson Pitts, professor, media and journalism; Dr. Tina Teague, professor, agriculture; Dr. Ronald Towery, professor, teacher education.

30 Years: Sherry Eskridge, library; Dr. Martin Huss, associate professor, biological sciences; Dr. David Saarnio, professor, psychology.

25 Years: Dr. Audrey Bowser, teacher education; Dr. Erik Gilbert, history; Dr. Warren Johnson, world languages and cultures; Dr. Jie Miao, mathematics; Dr. Richard Segall, computer and information technology; Jason Stewart, engineering; and Peggy Wright, political science.

20 Years: Jason Causey, computer science; Dr. Brian Church, exercise science; Dr. Lauren Schack Clark, music; Dr. Tonja Fillippino, teacher education; Shelley Gipson, art and design; Dr. Myleea Hill, communication; Mark Lewis, economics and finance; Mitch Mathis, physical education; April Sheppard, library; and Dr. Hung-Chi Su, computer science.
