JONESBORO – Christian Walls of Little Rock, the elected Arkansas Boys State governor, has been awarded the new Boys State Scholarship and will attend Arkansas State University this fall.

The scholarship is provided by A-State for the Governor of Boys State or Girls State, should that individual choose to attend Arkansas State. The award covers tuition, fees, room and board and is renewable each year provided the student completes 30 credit hours at A-State with a 3.25 grade point average.

Students must be enrolled in 15 hours at the university on the 11thclass day of each semester. Additional selection criteria include scholarship, community involvement and leadership qualities.

Arkansas Boys State is an immersive program in civics education designed for high school juniors and is sponsored by the American Legion Department of Arkansas. The weeklong experience allows the delegates to create their own state government, including state officials.

For over 75 years, the week-long camp has shaped the lives of notable leaders as Apollo 11 Astronaut Neil Armstrong, former President Bill Clinton, basketball superstar Michael Jordan, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, news anchor Tom Brokaw, former Senate majority leader Harry Reid and singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen.
