Hendricks to Present Faculty Trumpet Recital

09/06/2018

JONESBORO – Dr. Brittany Hendricks, instructor in the Department of Music at Arkansas State University, will present a faculty recital on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.  Admission is free.

Hendricks teaches trumpet at A-State and also performs with the Faculty Brass Quintet.  This season she also will join The Jackson (Tenn.) Symphony as second trumpet.

The program will include "Fantasia No. 1 in A Major' by Telemann, and Hummel’s "Concerto in E Major."  Hendricks will be accompanied on piano by Dr. Lauren Schack Clark and Emily Trapp Jenkins.

As a soloist and clinician, Hendricks has presented at numerous schools and conferences, most notably Baylor University, McGill University, the University of Missouri–Kansas City, the University of Kentucky, the International Women’s Brass Conference, the International Trombone Festival, the College Band Directors National Association North Central Division Conference, and the Indiana Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference (2015).

As a teacher, her primary interests include the pedagogy of private instruction; efficient embouchure function and correction; and the teachings of Vincent Cichowicz, whose methodology was the subject of her doctoral research. Hendricks’s teachers include Barbara Butler, David Hickman, Eric Yates, Richard Giangiulio, Charles Geyer, and Christopher Martin.

She began her academic career as assistant professor of trumpet at Ball State University, where she became the first applied faculty member in School of Music history to receive the university’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2016), a campus-wide honor that required her to be nominated by her students.

Last year Hendricks resigned at Ball State in order to relocate to Jonesboro, where her husband, trombonist Dr. Bruce Faske, is also on faculty at A-State.
