Fowler Center’s Family Friendly Series Features Innovative Lightwire Theater, Feb. 8-9

02/05/2014

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro, presents Lightwire Theater in the second and final event in its new Family Friendly Series on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. and a matinee show Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m.

This and other Family Friendly Series events feature special ticket prices and entertainment that appeals to younger audiences. Discovery Island and Toy Castle are the sponsors.

Lightwire Theater uses electro-luminescent wire to create characters.  Rarely used in a theatrical setting, this technology creates characters designed to combine dance, puppetry and a glow-in-the-dark show.

Their show will bring to life a pair of classic tales, Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Ugly Duckling” and Aesop’s fable, “The Tortoise and the Hare” in the darkened theatre through the technologically dazzling visuals that today’s kids relish. It also promotes appreciation for puppetry and movement, art forms that resonate best in live performance.

Using their talent as trained dancers, the cast of Lightwire Theater became nationally-known during their impressive showing on the seventh season of “America’s Got Talent.”

The events will be kid-friendly, meaning it’s okay to bring young children ages two and up. “Families are going to really enjoy these shows,” says Dr. Wendy Hymes, director of Fowler Center. “We wanted to give families additional affordable options for entertainment besides going to see a movie.”

A question and answer session with the show’s cast will follow each show, and the audience will have a chance to appreciate what is really going on when the humans reveal themselves at curtain call.

All seating is reserved. Individual tickets for the Family Friendly Series are $8 for children and seniors, $10 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center, 217 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro, or by calling (870) 972-ASU1 or by calling toll-free at (888) ASU-FANS. Tickets are also available online from the ASU Central Box Office (http://www2.astate.edu/tickets/) and from Fowler Center (www.yourfowlercenter.com).
