College of Agriculture Conference to Cover Character, Ethics
JONESBORO – The Arkansas State University College of Agriculture (CoA) welcomes guests and students to the Judd Hill Farmers' Market at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 10, for the Character and Ethics Conference.
Dr. Jacob Manlove, associate professor of agricultural economics, says attendees can expect a night full of meaningful discussions with a meal. “The conference will focus on the importance of integrity, character and ethical leadership in the agricultural industry.”
Wes Ward, Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture and an A-State alumnus, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker, along with a panel of professionals from various sectors of agriculture and agribusiness.
Fellow panelists include A-State alumni Craig Walker Jr., senior relationship manager at Rabo AgriFinance, Allyson Bise, financial services specialist at Nutrien Ag Solutions and Art Singleton, an attorney at Hashem Law Firm.
The program serves as a platform for those in the field and the next generation to discuss values that can impact the future of agriculture.
“Ethical decision-making and strong character are vital in agriculture due to its direct impact on food security, environmental sustainability and business integrity. Students will benefit greatly from listening to industry leaders as they gain insights into real-world challenges and the ethical considerations that guide successful agricultural professionals,” Manlove said.
The College of Education and Behavioral Science provided grant funding for the conference, which focused on incorporating qualities like character into educational curricula and events.
This is the first year for the conference, with plans to continue it in the future.
Attendees are encouraged to dress business casual. The event is free, but registration is required, and attendance is limited. One may register by clicking here.
