Beck Center for Veterans to Move to Administration Annex at A-State

04/29/2021

JONESBORO — The Beck Center for Veterans will soon have a new home when the office moves to the Administration Annex on the Arkansas State University campus, Friday, April 30. The annex, located behind the Neil Griffin College of Business, will accommodate the Office of Military and Veteran Student Success and will include Beck Center along with other key personnel serving military and veteran students.

“We are open and assisting veterans during the move,” said Lynda Nash, director of the center. “We are organizing the space and putting items in place and hope to be finished by Friday.”

An informal open house will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4. During that time, student veterans who are graduating can receive their coin and cord. The cord represents service in the military and the coin is presented by the Beck Center for Veterans. The challenge coin has a long-standing history usually signifying significant achievements.

Assistance will continue with individual services, psychoeducational groups, service dog training and Veterans Administration.

Parking is located in the Dean B. Ellis Library parking lot and handicapped parking is available outside the Delta Center for Economic Development, 319 University Loop West.

The center underwent a name change in January 2020, shortening to Beck Center for Veterans.  It is also joining with other units on campus as a key component of the new Office of Military and Veteran Student Success program.

The Beck Center for Veterans provides combat-wounded veterans with first-class educational programs and services at A-State. These include, but are not limited to, resources enabling access to the higher education experience, resources for counseling, personal rehabilitation, advocacy and financial assistance to help support these individuals to achieve their post-military service goals.

The office will work to spearhead platforms, communication and other opportunities and initiatives for students in the campus population. Several offices and individuals currently work on programs for military and veteran students. The objective is to have those offices and persons work together in a more coordinated way that leads to increased success for military and veteran students. The overall office name signifies it as a space specifically dedicated to the success of military and veteran students at Arkansas State University.
