Balusek added as Chair of Department of Sociology and Criminology

JONESBORO – Ken Balusek joins Arkansas State University as an associate professor of criminology and the incoming chair of the Department of Sociology and Criminology, interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication Brad Rawlins announced this week.

Balusek was an associate chair of the Department of Psychology, Justice and Society at Rockhurst University in Kansas City. He spent the past 13 years at Rockhurst, and previously was a visiting professor at University of Houston-Downtown and an instructor at Sam Houston State.

A graduate of Texas State with his bachelor’s in criminal justice, Balusek earned his law degree at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School at Western Michigan University.

For almost a decade Balusek had a private criminal practice in Victoria, Texas, before five years working as director of trial services and civil commitment services for the state of Texas. He earned his Ph.D. in criminal justice from Sam Houston State in 2011.
