Authors Encouraged to Apply as Summer Hemingway-Pfeiffer Writer-in-Residence

JONESBORO – Each summer, the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott hosts a writer-in-residence position.The residency will take place during the entire month of June and includes lodging at a loft apartment in downtown Piggott.“The writer-in-residence will also have the opportunity to work in the studio where Ernest Hemingway worked on ‘A Farewell to Arms’ during an extended stay with his wife’s family in 1928,” said Dr. Adam Long, executive director of the Heritage Sites.

In addition to lodging, the residency includes a $1,000 stipend to help cover food and transportation.A week-long retreat will be held in June where the person selected as the writer-in-residence will serve as a mentor to other writers at the educational center. The retreat will be open to up to 10 writers from the region. For the remainder of the month, the writer will be free to work on his or her work.

To apply for the program, it is preferred that candidates have a Master of Arts or a Master of Fine Arts in a relevant field.Qualifications for the position include the candidate providing a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a 20-page writing sample that can be submitted to Long via email at adamlong@AState.edu by Wednesday, Feb. 28.Due to the expected high volume of applications, confirmation that an application was received cannot be guaranteed. Incomplete applications cannot be accepted.The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center, an A-State Heritage Site, contributes to the understanding of the regional, national and global history of the 1920s and 1930s by focusing on the internationally connected Pfeiffer family of Piggott and their son-in-law and regular guest Ernest Hemingway. This includes drawing on Hemingway's influence as a noted American author to foster interest in literature and the arts and promote excellence in both.
