A-State To Hold Spring Graduation Ceremonies May 12

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University will conduct its 2018 Spring Commencement ceremonies, Saturday, May 12, at First National Bank Arena, 217 Olympic Drive. Chancellor Kelly Damphousse will confer 2,236 diplomas during the 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. services.

Students representing six colleges and Undergraduate Studies will receive degrees. The morning ceremony includes the Colleges of Education & Behavioral Science and Nursing & Health Professions, while the afternoon event includes the Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering & Technology; the Neil Griffin College of Business; Liberal Arts & Communication; Sciences & Mathematics; and Undergraduate Studies.

There are 23 students graduating summa cum laude and 132 magna cum laude. Additionally, 159 candidates will graduate cum laude, and a record 185 graduating students in University Honors, Honors, and recipients of Honors Certificates are included.

Sarah Eberwein of Jonesboro, a Chancellor's Scholar from the College of Nursing and Health Professions, will address the audience on behalf of the graduates in the morning. Robert Morris of Jacksonville, the 2018 winner of the R.E. Lee Wilson Award, will speak at the afternoon ceremony.

Dr. Evelyn Taylor, assistant professor of social work, who will speak in the morning ceremony, will represent the A-State faculty. Taylor was awarded the professional service award during the Faculty Achievement Award ceremony in April. Dr. Kate Krueger, associate professor of English and assistant department chair and recipient of the advising award, will address the afternoon gathering.

The Department of Military Science will commission six ROTC cadets into the U.S. Army Reserves Friday, May 11, at 3 p.m., in the First National Bank Arena auditorium.

Following the commencement ceremony, there is a reception for all graduates and families at the north mezzanine with punch and cookies.
