A-State to Celebrate Earth Day April 22 with Event on Heritage Plaza Lawn

04/09/2025

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University will celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. The theme of the event is “Our Power, Our Planet,” and will be held on Heritage Plaza Lawn.

Melissa Dooley, director of Environment, Health and Safety at A-State, said they will have various vendors on hand at the event to showcase what that theme means for Northeast Arkansas.

“We will have vendors from the Nature Center, Embassy Suites, and City, Water and Light to display their actions to improve and enhance sustainability. We will also have several campus clubs showing off their research and work,” said Dooley.

Not only does this event draw those from the campus community and members of the community, it also brings younger learners to campus. Dooley said they expect up to 1,000 elementary students to attend the Earth Day celebration.

“As a university, we have a unique platform to educate our community. By inviting local schools and vendors, we can demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship by inspiring others. We consider this event a small investment in a more sustainable future with future leaders of the world,” Dooley continued.

Staff from KASU will emcee the event and KAIT will host the weather for Midday from the lawn. Area businesses, interest groups and industries will set up booths to highlight their efforts to be environmentally friendly.

“Our agenda includes speakers from A-State and area organizations to discuss recycling, local conservation and earth-friendly practices,” Dooley added.

This event is free and open to all.
