A-State Theatre to Open Production of ‘Noises Off!’ Friday

11/06/2023

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University's Department of Theatre will present its second production of the 2023-2024 season when it opens “Noises Off!” by Michael Frayn.

Performances in the Fowler Center's Simpson Theatre are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10-11 and Nov. 17-18.

According to A-State Theatre’s announcement of the production, “Noises Off!” is a play-within-a-play farce that follows the antics of a bumbling theater company as they attempt to perform a cheesy comedy. With physical comedy, witty one-liners, and a touch of slapstick, the play is a masterclass in farce and a celebration of the madness that is the theater world.

Dallas Martinez, assistant professor of theatre, is director of the production, with Christian Armstrong of Russellville serving as assistant director.

The cast includes Judith Bossi of Batesville as Dotty Otley/Mrs. Clacket; Emma Bryant of Siloam Springs as Brooke Ashton/Vicki; Kylah Hood of Jonesboro as Belinda Blaire/Flavia Brent; Destiny Johnson of Cabot as Poppy Norton/Taylor; Trey Moore of Batesville as Lloyd Dallas; Michael Joseph of Sikeston, Mo., as Garry Lejeunne/Roger; Zane Brewer of Conway, as Fredrick Fellows/Phillip Brent; Luke Holt of Jonesboro as Selsdon Mowbray/Burglar; and Gavin Wilson of Berryville as Timothy Algood.

Claire Abernathy, associate professor of theatre, serves as the costume designer alongside Selena Hinds of Jonesboro, assistant costume designer. Jeff McLaughlin, associate professor of theatre, is scenic designer. Caisa Sanburg, associate professor of theatre, is the sound and lighting designer.

Emily Provence of Searcy serves as stage manager, and Katie Cooper of Jonesboro is assistant stage manager. Madi Goad of Jonesboro and Max Emery of Newport are properties masters.

R.J. Moad of Jonesboro is light board operator; Niko Stark of Searcy is sound board operator; and Nick Bates of Clarksville, Libby Wills of Russellville, Tommy Graham of Kennett, Mo., and Deanna Flax of Port Arthur, Texas, comprise the backstage crew.

Angel Able of Austin, Kelly Clarke of South Africa, Skyla Conger of Haskell and Ryan Carr of Jonesboro are dressers; Jo Crites of Alma and Roy Tanksley of Jonesboro are house managers; and Starke Prine of Italy, Baylor McElhaney of Bauxite, and Alex Jones of Russellville are in charge of captions.

Parents are advised that the show may not be suitable for all ages due to adult language and themes, and comic mischief.

Tickets may be purchased 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the A-State Box Office in First National Bank Arena or by calling (870) 972-2781. Tickets may also be purchased online at AState.edu/tickets. Prices are $10 for seniors and A-State faculty and staff, and $15 for the general public.
