A-State Summer Commencement Set for Saturday, Aug. 9

Arkansas State University will host its Summer Commencement Ceremony starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at First National Bank Arena, located at 217 Olympic Drive. 

Approximately 1,100 degrees will be conferred to candidates.

Sydney Keton, a senior from Swifton, will serve as the student speaker for the ceremony. She is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences with an emphasis in mammography and breast sonography. 

Chancellor Dr. Todd Shields and Dr. Calvin White Jr., provost and executive vice chancellor, will confer the doctoral, specialist, master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees to the candidates. 

The graduates represent all colleges at the university, including the College of Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, College of Education and Behavioral Science, College of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Liberal Arts and Communication, College of Nursing and Health Professions, Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics, and University College. 

A total of 102 students will graduate with honors distinction: six will graduate Summa Cum Laude with a GPA of 4.0, 37 have received Magna Cum Laude honors with a GPA of 3.8 to 3.99, and 59 will graduate Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.60 to 3.79. 

Commencement is open to the public, and no tickets are required. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m., and guests can enter through the upper red and yellow entrances.

All parking will be available at First National Bank Arena; however, no parking is allowed on grass surfaces. Please note that the arena’s clear bag policy will be in effect. The event will also be livestreamed at https://www.astate.edu/live/
