A-State Rugby Coach Resigns; Huckaby returns as interim

JONESBORO, Ark. – Club sport director Alex Houser announced his resignation as the head coach for the Arkansas State University rugby team effective immediately.
Former A-State rugby coach Matt Huckaby was named interim head coach for the team, according to Dr. Rick Stripling, vice chancellor for student affairs.
Stripling indicated a search for a new coach for the nationally known rugby club also begins today.
Huckaby served as head coach for 2010-11 prior to Houser’s selection in 2011. Huckaby is a former two-time all-American for Arkansas State, and currently works with A-State’s distance education program.
Houser led A-State to the USA Rugby 7s national championship in 2012. Arkansas State’s rugby team is one of the top club programs in the country with a distinguished history dating back almost two decades.
