A-State Named to Military Times ‘Best for Vets’ Rankings

07/09/2021

JONESBORO — Arkansas State University has been listed as one of the 2021 “Best for Vets” colleges by Military Times in the magazine’s annual rankings. A-State is rated 22nd overall among 366 other academic institutions and third on the Southwest Region list.

Each year, colleges across the country are surveyed by Military Times regarding their programs and services for veterans. The results are analyzed along with public information about academic institutions gathered from the Department of Education and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The compilation is then turned into official rankings.

The rankings are the largest and most comprehensive of schools for military service members and veterans. Additionally, the list helps them to make key decisions about their education. Ratings are grouped by regions, type (public, private not-for-profit, and private for profit), general education, career and technical, and four-year and two-year schools.

Arkansas State is listed as a Carnegie Classification R2 national doctoral university with more than 150 degrees of study. The R2 classification indicates that the university engages in high research activity in which faculty members are deeply engaged in original research, teach their own courses and often involve students in their research projects. It also includes an online program and diverse student body. The school offers scholarships to active duty and military spouses.

In addition, Veterans Administration-based work study and ROTC programs are available, along with career support. The Beck Center for Veterans and the Office of Access and Accommodation offer mental health services for military-connected individuals, family and group sessions.

Among A-State’s veterans’ services are spaces to study and/or socialize; counseling on VA and Department of Defense benefits and financial aid; personal financial support and advice; academic tutoring; class registration; career advice; legal aid; social events for vets and military families; military-related service projects; and help for physically disabled veterans.

MilitaryTimes.com is an independent source for news and information that affect service members. The magazine is a part of Sightline Media Group which first published Army Times in 1940. Throughout the years, Military Times has grown and now has publications providing service to all branches of the military.

Rankings are published in full in issues of Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times.
