A-State Accepts Invitation to CPED Educational Network

07/08/2025

JONESBORO - Arkansas State University will join the highly regarded Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED), a nationwide network of over 150 colleges and universities that aim to improve the Doctor of Education (EdD) degree.

“Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate is a nationally recognized consortium committed to reimagining the EdD. Being invited to join is an honor, and we look forward to learning more about innovative ways to prepare practitioners for the field,” said Dr. Annette Hux, dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Science (CEBS).

Established in 2007, the CPED works with higher educational institutions to tailor their EdD program to better prepare leaders and educators for the challenges and obstacles they might face in and out of the classroom and improve a degree candidate's overall experience as they prepare to train the next generation of students.

“They can expect an even more student-centered and practice-oriented experience. CPED's framework emphasizes the application of best practices to solve real problems in the field,” said Hux.

Faculty will engage with the CPED network, collaborate with peers, and identify opportunities for growth. “It’s a partnership focused on shared learning, innovation, and continuous improvement,” Hux adds.

A-State is one of 14 institutions recently accepted into an educational network, which includes the College of Charleston, the University of Utah and Sam Houston State University.

“Each brings a distinct voice and commitment to transforming leadership in education. Together, we’re not just redesigning a degree — we’re reshaping how leaders are prepared to tackle real world challenges with equity, innovation and impact at the forefront,” said Dr. Jill A. Perry, executive director of CPED.

“Long-term, we hope this partnership fosters deep collaboration, critical reflection, and continued innovation in how we prepare educational leaders. Ultimately, our goal is to enhance the relevance, rigor, and real-world impact of the degree for the communities our graduates serve," Hux added.

Hux applauds Dr. Topeka Singleton and Dr. Jacques Singleton, who initiated the charge to apply for and seek membership in the CPED. The trio then underwent an interview process focused on EdD admissions, curriculum, and dissertation processes. “We are honored to join this national movement and look forward to the insights, energy and opportunities it will bring,” said Hux.
