This MSW offers a concentration in rural based clinical social work practice with an emphasis on trauma-informed care. Graduates with the MSW degree are prepared for licensure in advanced practice in a clinical setting where they diagnosis and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional issues.

Students can also complete a certificate in Addictions Studies while completing their MSW.

MSW Program Mission Statement

The mission of the MSW Program at A-State is to provide a transformative educational experience that prepares graduates for compassionate, ethical, clinical practice that enhances the well-being and quality of life for individuals, families, groups and communities. Graduates utilize contemporary, evidence-base theories and approaches to intervene and bring about positive changes including economic and social justice for the client systems we serve. Our primary focus is serving vulnerable and oppressed individuals and groups in rural environments including the Lower Mississippi Delta Region and beyond.

Accreditation of a baccalaureate or master’s social work program by the Council on Social Work Education’s Board of Accreditation indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of program quality evaluated through a peer review process.  An accredited program has sufficient resources to meet its mission and goals and the Board of Accreditation has verified that it demonstrates compliance with all sections of the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards. 

Accreditation applies to all program sites and program delivery methods of an accredited program. Accreditation provides reasonable assurance about the quality of the program and the competence of students graduating from the program.
