Burns-Maynard Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

The Burns-Maynard Veterinary Scholarship was established through a generous $30,000 gift from Alan and Terri Burns to support students from Greene and Craighead counties pursuing veterinary education at A-State.

Inspired by their desire to give back to the region and university that shaped their lives, the couple created this scholarship to open doors for future veterinarians from Northeast Arkansas. Alan, a 1993 zoology graduate from Greene County, and Terri, a 1988 elementary education graduate and Jonesboro native, remain deeply connected to the community they call home.

Donna K. Easley

Donna Easley Small Animal Practice Support Endowed Scholarship

The Donna K. Easley Small Animal Practice Support Endowed Scholarship was established through a generous $50,000 gift from longtime animal welfare advocate Donna Easley to support Arkansas residents pursuing a DVM degree at A-State.

Created for students passionate about small animal care and committed to animal welfare, the scholarship reflects Easley’s desire to uplift future veterinarians who will champion accessible, compassionate care in their communities. A dedicated animal rescue volunteer for more than 25 years, Easley has collaborated closely with veterinarians across the state, and her experiences inspired her to invest in students who share her values and her commitment to improving the lives of animals.

Kathryn and Joe Miles Endowed Scholarship

The Kathryn and Joe Miles Endowed Scholarship was created through a generous $25,000 gift from Joe and Kathryn Miles of Mountain Home to support students pursuing a degree in the College of Veterinary Medicine at A‑State. A two‑time graduate of Arkansas State and a 2017 Distinguished Alumnus, Joe and his wife Kathryn established this scholarship to help future veterinarians achieve their goals and serve communities across Arkansas and beyond. Their commitment also includes a future estate gift that will continue to grow and sustain the scholarship for generations.

Miles spent nearly 40 years in community banking, retiring as president and board member of Integrity First Bank of Mountain Home. His longstanding dedication to A‑State includes service on the ASU Foundation and Alumni Association boards, where he held leadership roles and remained an active supporter of his alma mater.

Dr. Len Frey, Kay Luter, and Dr. Heidi Banse

Charles and Kay Luter Endowed Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine

A devoted educator, animal advocate, and proud A‑State alumna, Kay Kyle Luter demonstrated a lifelong commitment to helping others and advancing education across the region. She and her late husband, Charles, were inducted into the A‑State Legacy Society in 1999 in recognition of their enduring generosity and dedication to supporting the university’s mission.

Luter’s impact will continue through a transformational $500,000 leadership gift supporting students and faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine. This multi‑year commitment—along with a planned estate gift—advances the Charles and Kay Luter Endowed Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine, the Charles and Kay Luter College of Veterinary Medicine Excellence Fund, and the Charles and Kay Luter Annual Scholarship Fund, ensuring meaningful support for generations to come and honoring the couple’s shared passion for education and service.

A $25,000 gift from the Rorick family has established the Rorick Family Veterinary Medicine Scholarship to support students in the Arkansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The endowed scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Jerre Kent Rorick, a fourth‑generation equine professional who dedicated more than 50 years to veterinary practice and the care and performance of thoroughbred racehorses.

The scholarship will assist full‑time, on‑campus students accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine, with preference for those interested in large animal medicine, members of Pi Kappa Alpha in good standing, and students who exemplify scholarship, leadership, integrity, and character.
