Equine Center

A Passion for Horses

Opened in 2000, the A-State Equine Center gives students hands-on opportunities to learn, grow and pursue their passion for horses. A cornerstone of the College of Agriculture, the center also connects the university with the broader equine community of Northeast Arkansas by hosting events such as district FFA competitions, barrel races, and summer horse shows.

The centerpiece of the facility is the Garry Meadows Arena, named in honor of the contractor whose generosity and support helped make the arena possible. Nearby, Fielders Road—named for Lawrence Fielder, another key supporter—leads to the center. The covered arena measures 300 by 165 feet, with spectator seating, a surround sound system, and ample parking. The barn complex includes 52 stalls, eight tack rooms, two wash racks and a classroom that doubles as an event hospitality space.

The center is maintained by federal work-study students, student employees, and alumni who see the barn as a second home. Student involvement is central to the facility’s success and provides valuable experiences that prepare them for careers in the equine industry.

Our Goals:

  • Provide opportunities for students of all majors to build skills in horsemanship and equine management.
  • Offer a safe, clean, and professional boarding facility for students, alumni, and the community.
  • Serve as a welcoming venue for equine and non-equine events.
  • Create pathways for students to begin equine careers, regardless of experience level.

Gifts to the A-State Equine Center make a lasting impact on our students and community. Many of the horses in our program, along with the tack and equipment we use every day, have been generously donated. These contributions help provide hands-on learning opportunities, ensure high-quality horse care, and support the future of equine education at Arkansas State University.
