Sympathy to Family and Former Colleagues of Rosalie Barber, Emeritus Instructor
JONESBORO – The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former colleagues of Rosalie Barber of Jonesboro, who died March 18. Barber was a faculty member at Arkansas State University from 1969 until 2000, when she was named emeritus instructor in physical education.
An A-State alumna, Barber completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Among her many achievements as a student, she received the Wilson Award, the highest award presented to a graduating student.
She is remembered fondly by many former students for her leadership during her 31-year A-State career as director of women’s intramural sports, men’s intramural sports, and cheerleading clinics. Barber remained very involved in the leadership of her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi.
Honored by the A-State Alumni Association as a Distinguished Alumna, her service work included the National Advisory Board for the Beck Center for Veterans.
In addition to her work at A-State, she founded the Children’s House Montessori School in Jonesboro, advancing educational opportunities for hundreds of children over the years.
Survivors include a daughter, Allyson, a son, Chris, and their families. A visitation and celebration of life service will be Friday, April 3, at First Baptist Church. Her complete obituary is online.
The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be darkened that evening in memorial tribute to Barber for her contributions to higher education and Arkansas State University.
