KASU to Host 69th Birthday Party and Giving Event
JONESBORO – KASU 91.9 FM, the public media service of Arkansas State University, is
celebrating its 69th birthday with two fundraising events. KASU signed on the air
on Friday, May 17, 1957, and is the oldest National Public Radio (NPR) member station
in Arkansas, as well as the oldest non-commercial public radio station.
One can join the KASU team from 5 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at La Torcia Brick
Oven Pizza, located at 604 E. Highland Drive in Jonesboro, for fun and prizes. A portion
of the food proceeds will benefit the station. KASU will also be kicking off “KASU
– On the Road to 70” in anticipation of the station’s 70th year in 2027.
“We are excited about celebrating KASU’s 69th birthday and kicking off the celebration
to our 70th year with these events,” said Mark Smith, station manager at KASU.
The party continues on Friday, May 22, with KASU’s last Fundraising Friday for the
spring, focusing on Mental Health Awareness Month. The fund drive will commence at
8 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. One may donate that day by calling 870-972-2200. Donations
can be made online anytime at KASU.org/give or by downloading the KASU mobile app.
“The KASU listeners, underwriters, and Arkansas State University continue to show
their support for the station, keeping us strong and helping us reach our goals. We
depend upon this support now more than ever, so we can continue to stay strong and
bring our listeners the music, news, arts and views they depend on. We appreciate
all contributions as they all help us reach our goals,” added Smith.
KASU listeners become members by making financial contributions to the non-commercial
educational station.
The station has been an NPR member station since 1971. In addition to locally produced
news and music programs, KASU pays to receive programming from NPR, American Public
Media, and other sources.
