A-State's Faculty Appreciation Week to be Held Next Week
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University will host Faculty Appreciation Week from Monday,
March 16, through Friday, March 20. During this week-long celebration, there will
be many opportunities for members of the faculty.
“A-State's strength lies in our community, and undoubtedly, our faculty has a significant
and meaningful impact on our students,” said Dr. Jill Simons, director of the Center
for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
On Tuesday, March 17, two events are planned to honor faculty members. From 8 until
10 a.m., faculty members are encouraged to attend a drop-in breakfast hosted by the
Office of the Provost. This event will take place in the lobby of the Administration
Building.
“Faculty are the intellectual foundation of Arkansas State University,” said Dr. Calvin
White Jr., provost and executive vice chancellor. “Through their scholarship, teaching
and mentorship, they shape not only the academic experience, but the future of the
communities our graduates will serve. Faculty Appreciation Week gives us an opportunity
to recognize the impact they have on our students and our campus.”
Also on Tuesday, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) will host
an ice cream social from 1 – 2:30 p.m. in suite 301 of Dean B. Ellis Library.
On Wednesday, March 18, a lunch and learn will be held from noon – 1 p.m. in suite
301 of Dean B. Ellis Library. Hosted by CETL, this event will feature Dr. Susan Whiteland,
professor of art education, who will lead an interactive session on object-based learning.
Later that afternoon, faculty members can attend a mix and mingle event at Judd Hill
Farmers’ Market from 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Faculty Honors Convocation will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, in the
Grand Hall of Fowler Center. This event celebrates the service, retirements and achievements
of A-State faculty.
