‘A-State in a Day’ Aims to Help Students Transfer from Two-Year Campuses

JONESBORO – Students attending community colleges across the region who are looking to continue their education at a four-year university are currently evaluating their options. That is one reason why Arkansas State University has a series of events planned in March and April to visit with students during A-State in a Day. 
 
“A-State in a Day brings the campus visit experience directly to the host institution, eliminating barriers of distance, cost and access for prospective transfer students,” said Gregory Hawkins, associate director of transfer admissions.  
 
Eleven institutions in Arkansas and Southeast Missouri will host these events on their campuses.  
 
“The primary goals are to remove barriers, simplify the transfer process, and help students see themselves thriving at Arkansas State,” said Dr. Amanda Nickerson, vice chancellor for enrollment management. “From admissions and advising to financial aid and academic pathways, we want students to leave knowing exactly what their next steps are – and that A-State is ready to support them from day one."

These events, will take place at ASU-Mountain Home, University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville, University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton, Three Rivers College, University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College, North Arkansas College, ASU Three Rivers, ASU Mid-South, ASU-Beebe, Arkansas Northeastern College, and ASU-Beebe at Heber Springs.  
 
“Whether students take A-State classes on the Mid-South campus through our University Center or transfer to the Jonesboro campus for a more traditional college experience, A-State has long been a top transfer destination for our students,” said Jeremy Reece, vice chancellor for student affairs at Arkansas State University Mid-South. 
 
Hawkins said these events are designed to make things as easy as possible, accelerating the admissions process for students. 
 
"Our primary target audience includes students who will be graduating and considering transferring within the next two academic semesters,” Hawkins added. “This focus allows us to ensure eligibility for transfer scholarships and to proactively address common transfer challenges, such as housing processes and scholarship applications, well in advance.”  
 
Nickerson said A-State in a Day is a way to let future transfer students know they will be valued, welcomed, and supported at A-State.  
 
“A-State offers strong academic programs aligned with workforce needs, a caring campus community, and an institution that believes deeply in access and opportunity. We have a personalized transfer orientation to officially welcome them to campus and help them enroll in the appropriate classes for their degree," said Nickerson.  
 
The events will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the various campuses. The A-State in a Day visits begin on Tuesday, March 17, and conclude on Monday, April 20.
