A-State and Jonesboro Prepare for Influx of Visitors This Weekend

JONESBORO – As students at Arkansas State University prepare to walk across the stage at First National Bank Arena this weekend and accept their diplomas, many of the families of those graduates, and some of the graduates themselves, will be traveling to Jonesboro.

“Jonesboro is the heart of Northeast Arkansas—both geographically and culturally. As the regional hub, it’s where people come for dining, shopping, entertainment, healthcare, education and connection,” said Bethania Baray-Harrison, director of talent attraction at Jonesboro Unlimited.

For many, this may be their first or second time to visit Jonesboro, and Baray-Harrison said the city and its residents have much to offer.

“What they quickly discover is a city that blends small-town warmth with big-city energy,” Baray-Harrison continued.

For families visiting the area this weekend, she said there are a few things they should know.

“People here are friendly, the community is tight-knit, and there’s an unmistakable pride in welcoming others in. Whether you’re here to celebrate graduation, get a taste of campus life, or meet the community your student now calls home, Jonesboro makes it easy to feel included and appreciated.”

Jonesboro has been home to the university since its inception in 1909 when it first began as one of four high schools in the state created to teach agriculture, horticulture and textile manufacturing.

“Our city is expanding fast, and with that comes new restaurants, entertainment districts, outdoor amenities, and business opportunities,” she continued.

There are also many reasons why an A-State graduate may decide to make Jonesboro their home or choose to continue their education at the institution.

“Jonesboro is home to a booming job market, especially for young professionals who want to stay in a place where life feels balanced and affordable. A-State is producing incredible talent, and we want to keep that talent here. From career opportunities to community involvement to a cost of living that lets you build the life you want, Jonesboro is a city full of momentum and possibility.”

Whether you’re looking for a place to stop for brunch, find a shopping center to grab some gifts ahead of the holidays, or see some holiday-themed scenery, Jonesboro has many opportunities.

“Start with Downtown Jonesboro. During the holiday season, the lights, decorations and cozy storefronts create a classic festive atmosphere. The city has several shopping areas that include modern holiday charm with beautifully lit streets, warm cafés, and family-friendly spots to relax and celebrate.”
