Steve Davis Trio to Entertain at KASU Jazz Thursday Feb. 28

JONESBORO, Ark. — KASU continues its newest concert series, “Jazz Thursday in Jonesboro,”
with a performance by the Steve Davis Trio at The Arts @ 311 on Thursday, February
28. The Trio will perform two sets between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. followed with a jam
session led by The Swing Band Project from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Steve Davis (guitar) is a former Kennett, Mo. resident and a 1994 graduate of Kennett
High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Commercial Music from Belmont University,
where his studies were primarily focused on two fields: guitar performance and studio
music/engineering. He can be heard playing with Dr. Bryan Clark every week in East
Nashville, where he currently makes his home.
Matt Jackson (upright bass) is a Kennett native. He graduated from Kennett High School
in 1985, and studied bass with Tim Goodwin at the University of Memphis before transferring
to the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After graduating summa cum laude from Berklee,
he moved to Nashville, where he worked as a freelance musician for several years,
performing with the likes of Bill Monroe, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Porter
Wagoner, and Louise Mandrell. A graduate of Washington University School of Law, Jackson
is an attorney in Kennett.
Michael Cates (drums) is Director of Bands for the Kennett School District. He holds
degrees from Union University, the University of Tennessee at Martin, and Nova Southeastern
University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and he is currently working toward a Doctor
of Educational Leadership from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. He has
been performing professionally since the age of 14 and has performed with many artists
in the country, rock, jazz, and pop fields.
KASU Jazz Thursday concerts are free, presented by the Arkansas State University public
radio station and underwritten by Greg-Langford-Bookout Funeral Home, The Arts @ 311,
and Jonesboro Infectious Disease Control Consultants. KASU passes the hat for the
band.
The Arts@311 is located at 311 S. Church St. just south of the Church St. and Creath
Ave. intersection in downtown Jonesboro.
