Five A-State Softball Players Earn 2015 NCSA All-America Honors

JONESBORO – Five players from Arkansas State University’s club softball program have
been named to the 2015 National Club Softball Association (NCSA) All-America list.
Four players were named to the first team, while one is listed on the third team.
A-State finished the NCSA World Series tournament in third place May 17.All seniors,
catcher Erika Whitaker of Thayer, Missouri, shortstop Mackenzie Powers of Paragould,
outfielder Katelyn Brown of Armorel and pitcher Shea Cothren of Paragould are first-team
selections. Third baseman Emily Clements, a freshman from Winnfield, Louisiana, made
the third team.
"Having four first team all-Americans selected this year speaks volumes on the quality
of players right here in Northeast Arkansas," said head coach Chris Powers. "For Emily
Clements to come in here from Winnfield, La., and be selected as a third team all-American
as a freshman tells you a little bit about her talent and the quality of players we
are about to attract here at Arkansas State. I'm very proud of all them and they are
all very deserving."
The Red Wolves, the top-ranked team in the nation going into the World Series and
the tournament’s No. 1 seed, posted wins over Connecticut (7-0) and California-Davis
(10-0) in the first round. In the second round, A-State knocked off Grand Valley State
(8-1) and Connecticut (5-4), and then lost, 2-1, to eventual national champion James
Madison. On the final day of the tournament, Arkansas State defeated Air Force (17-0)
and Kansas (14-0), before dropping a close 3-2 decision to Florida.
