The Arkansas State University Museum and the Arkansas Archeological Survey will host “Dig into the Past,” a celebration of Native American culture, on Archeology Day, Saturday, March 10. This free event will be held in the ASU Museum atrium and main gallery from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The ASU Museum is located at 320 University Loop West Circle, Jonesboro.

Special activities will include the identification of Native American pottery, stone tools, and stone points by professional archaeologists. The purpose of the identification is to learn more about the age, function, and cultural meaning of objects that have been found throughout our region. (Please note that the archaeologists will not appraise nor perform conservation.) Bring any artifacts—this is a great opportunity to learn about the people who lived here hundreds, or even thousands, of years ago.

In a very special storytelling time, visitors will actually participate in the telling—a method favored by many Native American storytellers. Following the story, guests may create their own renditions of Native American artifacts using a variety of materials provided by the museum. Finally, the museum will be premiering a brand-new scavenger hunt at a one-day-only bargain price.
