2015 Fall Writers’ Retreat Set for Nov. 2-6 at Hemingway-Pfeiffer

PIGGOTT, Ark. –The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) in Piggott will hold its Fall 2015 Writers’ Retreat, Monday through Friday, Nov. 2-6. The retreat will be held in the educational center and the Hemingway Barn-Studio, and will offer writers the opportunity to work under the direction of a professional mentor.

PIGGOTT, Ark. –The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) in Piggott will hold its Fall 2015 Writers’ Retreat, Monday through Friday, Nov. 2-6. The retreat will be held in the educational center and the Hemingway Barn-Studio, and will offer writers the opportunity to work under the direction of a professional mentor. Registration is $200 and is due by Oct. 16; participants pay $225 after that date. Lunch and breaks are included in the registration fee. Pat Carr, serving as mentor for the retreat, has a B.A. and M.A. from Rice, a Ph.D. from Tulane University, and has taught writing and literature in universities and workshops across the country. She has published 16 books, including, The Women in the Mirror, winner of the prestigious Iowa Fiction Award, and Death of a Confederate Colonel, winner of both the PEN Southwest Fiction Award and John Estes Cooke Civil War Fiction Award.
She has more than 100 short stories published in such places as The Southern Review and Best American Short Stories. Her most recent books are a memoir, One Page at a Time (2010); a how-to text, Writing Fiction with Pat Carr (2010); a novella, The Radiance of Fossils (2012) and a collection of short stories, The House on Prytania (2014).
Writers’ retreats are structured to be interactive with group activities and private writing time and mentoring. Writers contribute stories, poems and essays to be published onsite in a spiral-bound souvenir anthology for each participant. HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site located at 1021 W. Cherry Street, Piggott, Ark. Tours are on the hour, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, 1-3 p.m.
